Best AirBnBs in Cartagena

If it isn’t already, you need to put Cartagena on your list. This South American port city is vibrant in every sense of the word. As Colombia has become a popular destination for more than backpackers, AirBnbs have become ubiquitous in this gorgeous coastal city, and I’ve rounded up the best ones in this post.

There are three main areas to stay near the water in Cartagena – Bocagrande, Old Town, and Getsemani. Bocagrande feels like South Beach, lots of sleek, high rise condos and crowded beach, not really our vibe. Old Town, or Centro Historico, is the walled city where you can find the famous clocktower, rooftop bars, and nice shops. Getsemani is situated between the other two and feels more relaxed, cozy, and very lively in the evenings.

Basilica Pizzeria is a Getsemani favorite

Every place on this list is in either Old Town or Getsemani and they all have air conditioning, hot water, at least 4.5 stars from guest ratings, are smoke-free, and under $200 a night. For all of these listings, you have the entire place to yourself. They are in order of listed price, from low to high.

Simple Studio with Amazing View

This studio apartment rents for $75 a night and includes access to a pool on the ground floor and a rooftop jacuzzi with a perfect view of the Cathedral in Old Town. A 24-hour doorman makes check-in easy and you are centrally located to explore Cartagena. One caveat is the beds are two twin beds, so likely better for a solo traveler, friends, or a mother-daughter trip, rather than a couple.

Sea view apt in Cartagena historic walled city

I had originally planned to book this place for our stay in Cartagena but it got snatched up before we finalized our trip. This small but stylish space has one king bed, a small kitchen with full fridge, and bathroom. It’s in Old Town with a view of the water. The hammock and bright wallpaper behind the bed make it a photogenic home base. Guests appreciate the very comfortable bed and local tips from host Nicolas. Last I checked there is typically a 7-night minimum stay with a nightly rate of $115.

Artist Studio in Getsemaní

This bright and charming studio apartment is perfectly located to enjoy Cartagena. With a small kitchen, full bed and pull out futon, it’s just right for a couple, or a small girls trip at under $100 a night. The best part are two beautiful portraits by a local artist, who also happens to be your host! Along with her sisters, Superhost Diana has three properties in Cartagena, including a three-bedroom townhouse if you have a larger group.

Stylish Studio in Walled City

This studio is an open space with full kitchen and eclectic details, great for those who like to cook in a couple nights while on vacation. For $105 a night you can have this private getaway very near Plaza Santo Domingo in Old Town.

Modern 3 bedroom apartment in Getsemani

This is where we actually stayed and I have to say my choice had a lot to do with the small-scale version of the Audrey Hepburn mural (the original is in Little Italy in New York). But really it’s the location that should convince you to book. We were perfectly positioned in Getsemani, but also very close to Old Town. The apartment is listed at $140 per night which is a good value for the three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, especially if you’re traveling with more than two people.

Home with Private Pool in Centro Historico

Perfect for a couple or a young family, this home is bright and airy with a small private pool and hammock, full kitchen, and one bedroom with multiple pull-out beds in the living room. I especially love the antique soaking tub in the bathroom. This home is centrally located in the trendy San Diego neighborhood of Old Town and is listed at $151 per night. Guests especially appreciate Superhost Sophie’s hospitality at check-in to walk them through the house and provide local tips and recommendations.

Spacious Getsemani Apartment with Private Pool

Talk about a romantic getaway! Casa Tucan offers high ceilings, two stylish bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a small but functional kitchen, and housekeeping and laundry service every other day are included. The private pool and cabana sets this place apart, as well as its proximity to the bustling Plaza de Trinidad in Getsemani. It rents for between $139 and $159 a night and can sleep two couples comfortably.
